Forget the mall, forget the traffic and lines, Black Friday is a great day to get outside and join the #optoutside movement! We’ve talked about getting outside on Black Friday before here and here, and this year it pairs perfectly with #getoutallwinter! This is a fabulous way to start new traditions with family and friends as well as take some of the focus away from shopping and buying more stuff. Looking for ideas about what to do this Friday? Here are my top 3 ways to get outside this Black Friday:
1. Try one of the hikes I mentioned here that are awesome on LITERALLY ANY DAY OF THE YEAR! Why not Black Friday?
2. City Parks: Check out one of your local city parks for a walk, bike ride or picnic. A fun challenge would be to identify the park that’s closest to you and walk to or through it. This can be a fun way to discover a less well known area that will always be convenient.
3. Cut a Christmas Tree: A couple years ago we talked about how to cut a Christmas tree in Washington’s National Forests, which is my absolute favorite family tradition! If you’re not up for that level of adventure, or if you have small children making it less practical, you could enjoy an outing to a Christmas tree farm, which is a more controlled environment, guaranteeing that perfect tree! A bonus is that a tree you cut yourself will last all the way through the holiday season as long as you give it lots of water everyday (especially important to monitor the water at the beginning).
Don’t forget the tips we have for having fun outside all winter and enjoy!
